Some of MAPA's Achievements

1.  Instrumental in getting "Mentone" put on the sign at the Interstate 59 exit.

2.  Instrumental in getting the stone wall built on the side of the mountain.

3.  Instrumental in getting caution lights installed on Highway 117 at the top of the mountain.

4.  Built the side walk from the Hitching Post to the Fire Hall and set out plants along the walk.

5.  Paneled City Hall.

6.  Installed street signs.

7.  Put up the bulletin board at the Post Office.

8.  Floored the northern-most pavilion at the City Park.

9.  Paid half of the cost on the floor of the other pavilion.

10.  With Kenneth Kirby's and Tommy Gifford's help, cleared off the parking lot south of the City Park.

11.  Published "The Groundhog" newspaper.

12.  We have, for years, put on two festivals per year at the City Park.  Non-profit organizations are given free booths.  The Boy Scouts make a little parking cars, and we make a little to help fund the our next project, and the local businesses make some.

13.  Donated money to Moon Lake School, the Fire Department, the Boy Scouts, the Library and others.

14.  Our latest project was to secure pictures of all former mayors of Mentone to be displayed in the City Hall.

I mention these, not for thanks or praise, but to let you know that we are not just a "social club" as some think, but are here for the good of the community.  We welcome all new members and hope you will come to our meetings and get involved with your favorite project.  We need all of the help we can get.  If you think of a project that you believe would help the community, tell us and we will certainly consider it.   — Homer Crow, Founding Member
